The best phones for 2010

This year should see the launch of many highly anticipated phones – from the BlackBerry Curve 8530 to the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. If you can’t wait for the new wave of handset launches, however, then here are the most impressive phones currently on the market in 2010.

iPhone 3GS: It may be cliché, but the simple fact is that the iPhone 3GS is still one of the fastest and most feature rich handsets out there. With a fantastic mobile browser, an updated camera and access to a mind-boggling range of applications, this phone sets the standard for all others to beat.

Motorola Droid: This sleek handset is as futuristic as its name suggests, with an Android operating system and a stunning 3.7 inch display. Add to that a super speedy internet connection, location awareness, speech recognition and a 5 megapixel camera with DVD quality video, and you have a phone which will remain cutting edge for a long time.

HTC Nexus One: It might not be the most attractive phone on the market, but the HTC Nexus One by Google is certainly one of the snappiest. It boasts an Android 2.1 interface, an AMOLED display and an extremely fast Snapdragon processor, as well as a noise cancellation feature and enhanced voice dialing capabilities. This is certainly a top contender for 2010’s best handset.

Palm Pre Plus: There is much to love about this attractive edition to the Palm Pre range, not least a 3.1 inch HVGA touch screen and a full slide-out keyboard. With great internet speeds and an innovative inductive back cover for Touchstone re-charging, the Palm Pre Plus with be a strong market competitor for some time to come.

RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700: Arguably the most attractive and most feature-full BlackBerry yet, the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a business-friendly smartphone with plenty to attract the user. It has a large, high-resolution display, trackpad navigation, an expandable memory and video recording, not to mention speedy network connections. A great phone for professional and business use.

Of course, if you’re keen to wait for the new wave of handset launches then you could always consider pre-ordering. Some of the best up-and-coming phones are available on excellent deals this way – Vodafone, for example, is offering the Sony Ericsson X10 free on £35 pay monthly contracts. There are also rumours that the Apple iPhone 4GS will be available as early as May 2010. Visit the Vodafone site for these and more handsets, including the coveted HTC.
